EnviroServ - Sundra Truck Depot, Gauteng

07 October 2024 | Client: EnviroServ Waste Management (Pty) Ltd

The Sundra Truck Depot (SD), managed by EnviroServ Waste Management's (EWM) Transport Solutions division, serves as a pivotal hub for efficient, compliant, and cost-effective hazardous waste transportation across Gauteng and Mpumalanga, South Africa. Located on Dahlia Street, Welgedacht AH.

The depot operates 24/7, encompassing essential facilities such as a vehicle workshop, tyre bay, diesel refuelling area, and truck wash bay. It also houses administrative offices, training facilities, and amenities for staff. The site and neighbouring properties to not have access to municipal water supply and therefore relies on boreholes for water supply, drawing approximately 40 m3 daily for operational needs like sanitation and truck washing (proposed to be increased to 60 m3). The site also makes use of septic tanks (3) for the toilets and wastewater from taps and showers which are vacuumed regularly and disposed of at the EWM’s Holfontein Hazardous Waste Management Facility.

Formerly holding a temporary Waste Management Licence (WML) until 2015, the depot now seeks an Integrated Water Use Licence Application (IWULA) under the National Water Act (No. 36 of 1998) (as amended) (NWA).

SLR Consulting (South Africa) (Pty) Ltd (SLR), an independent firm of environmental consultants, has been appointed by EWM to manage the IWULA Application process.
