Marx was not only a thinker but also a revolutionary activist. He was not only interested in floating a thought or idea but also his ideas were to change the entire world. The word dialectics refers to a method of intellectual discussion by dialogue. It is a term of logic.
The Theses on Feuerbach did not see the light of day for over forty years, when Engels published them as an appendix to his book Ludwig Feuerbach and the End of Classical German Philosophy in Marx, of course, did not mean that revolutionaries should abandon the task of interpreting the world—that, after all, was what he spent most of his life trying to do. But he was not interested in theory for the sake of theory, or theory for the sake of satisfying curiosity. Theory is valuable precisely because it can help us change the world. Engels may have given the best short summary of the approach to history that he and Marx developed:. Marx discovered the law of development of human history: the simple fact, hitherto concealed by an overgrowth of ideology, that mankind must first of all eat, drink, have shelter and clothing, before it can pursue politics, science, art, religion, etc. Engels calls the way production is organized and the level of economic development that a society has achieved, the foundation on which other ideas and institutions rest.
Marx’s materialist conception of history revisited
Materialism is the basis of his sociological thought because for Marx material conditions or economic factors affect the structure and development of society. His theory is that material conditions essentially comprise technological means of production and human society is formed by the forces and relations of production. It is historical because Marx has traced the evolution of human societies from one stage to another. It is called Materialistic because Marx has interpreted the evolution of societies in terms of their material or economic bases.
This contradiction of the capitalist society is essential to its decline. This decline while not really a transformative revolution but over time will allow the proletariat to rise in power. Therefore, class consciousness is the essential characteristic of revolutionary politics. The transformation of society through the communist revolution will only arise…. Throughout history, humans have been using political ideals as a means to gain power and keep people from living in complete chaos.
